Training camp

Where hounds get better: unleash them, send them to training, ask them, rate their calls, backtest their rules.

How this works

Where hounds get better. Unleash a hound on the latest boards, ask it why it did what it did, rate its calls, and backtest its rule over past days. Hounds don't get edited: rookies try out for the starting job, a rookie makes the team only when the numbers say it beat the starter on the same games, and a fixed rulebook does the cutting, never an AI's hunch. If camp can't show it's helping, it shuts itself down.

Paper bets only. Not advice. 21+.

Your hounds in training

—

The hounds you built: record, last tickets, what people think.

How this works

The hounds you built: this season's record, the last five tickets, what people think of each one and what they suggested. Unleash a hound on the latest boards, ask it why it did something, or backtest its rule on old boards.

Coach report card: is the coach any good?

—

Once a week the coach suggests one dial tweak. Code grades every tip. A verdict needs 20 settled bets.

How this works

Once a week the coach tells a hound to tweak one of its dials. We don't take its word for it. Code grades every tip two ways. Hindsight replays the 30 days before the tip with the old dial and the new one. The coach could see that stretch, so it's a rehearsal. Live is the honest one: from the minute the tip lands, both dials run side by side on new games. A verdict needs 20 settled bets. Until then it's TOO EARLY.

Graded by code, never by the coach. A tip never changes a hound; only the rookie rulebook below can do that. Paper bets only, not advice.

Backtest

—

Replay a hound's rule over the last 7, 14 or 30 days, or Season 2, in paper dollars. Hindsight: never counted in the record.

How this works

Replay a hound's current rule over the last 7, 14 or 30 days (or Season 2 so far, at most the last 30 days) of stored boards and see what it would have done on the $2,500 paper bankroll. It is a rehearsal: you can see how those games ended, so a backtest is never added to a record, a ranking or a verdict. A month can take up to a minute.

Promotions and cuts

—

Every rookie that made the team or was cut, with the numbers that decided it.

How this works

Every rookie that made the team, and every one that was cut, with the numbers that decided it. The rulebook below does the deciding.

Are the hounds smarter than a coin?

—

Two control hounds pick by coin flip and dart. Every hound pays the book's cut.

How this works

The only question that matters. Two control hounds pick with a seeded coin flip and a seeded dart throw. Every hound pays the book's cut, so a hound with no brains sits right at the controls. The line below compares the two on the same games only.

Does making the team stick?

—

Do promoted rookies keep pricing as well as the hound they replaced?

How this works

Of the rookies who made the team and have since made 100 measurable bets as the starter, how many priced at least as well as the hound they replaced. It stays empty until a promotion has had 100 bets.

What's gone down in camp

—

Camp checks each month for flukes and never promotes more than three rookies.

How this works

Lots of rookies try out at once, so one looks good by pure luck every now and then. Camp keeps a fluke check on each month's finished tryouts, never lets more than three rookies make the team in a month, and keeps a running count of how many of them could be flukes.

The rulebook, in brief

—

The whole rulebook, every number in it, is in docs/PREREG_LEARNING_LOOP.md. It was written before the code existed.

What the cuts taught us

—

One line for every rookie whose tryout ended.

How this works

One line for every rookie whose tryout ended, written by code from the numbers. The coach reads these before it suggests anything, and a near-copy of a cut rookie is turned away for 90 days.

Breeding program

—

Every three days the best hounds are crossed into new rookies.

How this works

Every three days the best models with 25+ real bets are crossed into new rookies, and the worst with 40+ bets are cut or replaced. Babies start at 0-0 and race on new games; only the referee promotes. Rules: docs/PREREG_BREEDING.md.
